Northwestern defeats Cent. Arkansas 81-39

Kevin Coble scored 15 points and had a game-high eight rebounds with three steals as Northwestern defeated Central Arkansas 81-39 Sunday in the season opener for both teams.

Coble scored 10 points in the opening half. Central Arkansas (0-1) started the game hitting just 1-9 field goals, as Northwestern (1-0) raced to end the first half with a 35-17.

Marcus Pillow sank two 3-pointers and Chris Brown added a basket, as Central Arkansas closed its deficit to 40-27 with nearly 17 minutes remaining. But Northwestern went on a 21-6 run to extend its lead to 61-33 with 7:33 on the clock.

Michael Thompson had seven points during the Wildcats surge.

The final score was Northwestern's largest lead of the game.

Thompson, Jeff Ryan and freshman Kyle Rowley all scored 10 points for Northwestern. Pillow led the Bears with 13 points.
