Briefs: Time for OctoberCross
There will be bikes, brews and bands at the inaugural OctoberCross in Carpentersville from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at Carpenter Park in Carpentersville. There will also be boxes to drop-off non-perishable food items for the FISH food pantry. With shelves at the pantry running low, Carpentersville resident Kent Baldwin decided to do something about it. He will be collecting food and delivering the proceeds to FISH first thing Monday morning.
Candidates forum
The League of Women Voters of the Carpentersville Dundee Area is holding a candidates forum from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Dundee Township Park District Senior Center, 665 Barrington Ave., Carpentersville. Candidates from several contested races will present an opening statement and answer questions submitted from the audience.
Torres to hold open sessions
New U-46 Superintendent José Torres will hold daytime and evening open sessions to meet with U-46 community members. Every other month, Torres will hold a noontime "brown bag lunch" for community members from noon to 1 p.m. at district headquarters, 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin. The evening sessions, also every other month, will take place at 6 p.m. at the Elgin High School Library, preceding the monthly Citizens' Advisory Council meeting. Dates for brown bag lunch sessions will be Oct. 16, Dec. 11, Feb. 12 and April 16. Evening sessions include Sept. 11, Nov. 13, Jan. 15, March 12 and May 7.
