Elgin woman charged with stalking romantic rival
Carpentersville police arrested a 41-year-old Elgin woman this week on a stalking charge alleging she threatened to shoot a romantic rival.
Sabrina L. Roberts, 1459 Meyer St. #2W, had purchased a can of pepper spray at a local gun shop and was in the process of obtaining a firearm owner's identification card when she was arrested Monday, police said.
After the arrest, police said, Roberts admitted calling the victim, a 41-year-old Carpentersville woman, between 15 and 20 times.
"I could kill you and get away with it. I applied for a gun permit," Roberts told the woman, according to police reports. "I can plead insanity; you don't know who you are dealing with."
Roberts also admitted in a written statement she had parked outside the victim's home on five occasions, police reports state. One of those occurred Sept. 17, police said, when a witness reported seeing Roberts parked outside the victim's home for 40 minutes.
On Monday, police said, Roberts followed the victim from Elgin to East Dundee before her arrest.
When she was arrested, police found Roberts was wanted on outstanding 1994 warrant for a charge of making harassing telephone calls.
She appeared Tuesday before Kane County Judge Kevin T. Busch, who set her bond at $40,000.
I believe public safety is at risk here," Busch said.
Upon hearing the bond amount, Roberts began crying hysterically and had to be removed from the Carpentersville booking room by police because she became so loud. She later was transferred to the Kane County jail where she remained in custody pending an Oct. 16 court date.
