St. Charles man accused of printing, cashing phony checks

A St. Charles man was arrested Tuesday on charges he accessed his Carpentersville employer's payroll system to print and then cash fraudulent checks.

Timothy Avery, 24, of 1783 Cumberland Green St. was charged in court Wednesday with two felony counts of forgery, police said.

Using the false name Max White, Avery cashed at least three fraudulent checks from Midwest International, 150 S. Washington St., worth $566.81 at locations in Carpentersville and Elgin, police said.

Avery, according to police, implicated a co-worker in the alleged scheme, but no one else had been arrested as of Wednesday.

Avery posted a $1,000 bond Wednesday morning and was released with an Oct. 17 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.
