Ex-worker accused of theft from Naperville Audi dealership

The former parts manager of a Naperville car dealership is facing theft charges after being accused of pilfering more than $400,000 from his employer.

Mark R. Havens, formerly of Naperville, is charged with looting funds for four years until June 2007 while working for Continental Audi, 1527 Aurora Ave.

Prosecutor Ken Tatarelis presented evidence this week to a DuPage County grand jury, which indicted Havens on theft charges. The allegations were outlined in an indictment made public Friday in court records.

Havens, 37, is accused of creating fraudulent invoices and then crediting his own personal credit cards and bank account with the stolen money. Authorities said Havens confessed to police after the alleged theft scheme unraveled last year.

Police obtained an arrest warrant Sept. 11. Havens turned himself in to police Sept. 15. He was released after posting the required 10 percent of a $100,000 bond.

His attorney, Philip Nathe, was not immediately available Friday to comment.

If convicted, Havens faces four to 15 years in prison. He is not eligible for probation. Havens is scheduled Oct. 21 to be arraigned before DuPage Circuit Judge Peter J. Dockery.
