U of I: Workers can campaign, but not on the job
CHAMPAIGN _ University of Illinois President Joseph White says faculty and other employees can show support for political candidates as long as they don't do it while they work.
White said in an e-mail Monday that he heard many concerns following an administration newsletter. The letter advised university employees that they can't wear or distribute anything on campus that supports a candidate or party, or attend political rallies on campus.
The warning was based on the state Ethics Law. It led to complaints from some faculty members.
White added in the e-mail that university employees can attend on-campus political rallies, as long as they're not on the job.
