Lawsuits pile up in sexual abuse case

Another lawsuit has been filed against a former teacher and the school district in connection with the sexual abuse of a female student.

The lawsuit filed by the student and her parents accuses Urbana school officials of failing to report Jon White's sexual abuse of students and protecting them from such activity.

The newest lawsuit names three former and three current Urbana school employees. The defendants and the district are accused of acting with "indifference to known teacher-on-student sexual harassment." The lawsuit seeks more than $50,000 in damages.

White pleaded guilty in February to sexually abusing eight girls at the Thomas Paine Elementary School in Urbana and two at Colene Hoose Elementary School in Normal. He is serving a 60-year prison sentence.
