Man killed in Des Plaines accident

Des Plaines police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on River Road at 6:33 p.m. Monday night, officials said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said Conrad Chmielewski, 67, of Kildeer, was killed.

A press release issued by the department said a vehicle was heading westbound on a private drive at 3000 S. River Road when it struck a cement barrier wall that leads to I-294. Upon impact, the release said, the vehicle started on fire.

Des Plaines police on Tuesday afternoon said the accident is still under investigation.
