Briefs: Campton Hills Trick-or-Treat hours

The village of Campton Hills has set Trick-or-Treat hours from 3 to 9 p.m. today for Halloween. Officials ask that children wear some type of reflective clothing and be accompanied by an adult. Call (630) 584-5700.

Free workshop for artists:

The Fox Valley Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago will host a free workshop to train art volunteers in the classroom from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave. Registration will begin at 6 p.m. The workshop is open to volunteers who present art appreciation programs in public or private elementary schools. Halloween trash change:

For Genevans who have Friday trash pickup, it will begin at 6 a.m. (an hour earlier) this week. Allied Waste, the city's hauler, wants to get its trucks off the street before children start trick-or-treating in the afternoon, said Dan Dinges, the city's public works director. The trucks will make a pass through the city shortly before 3 p.m. for those who missed morning pickup. Suggested trick-or-treating hours for Geneva are 3 to 7 p.m. For more information, call city hall at (630) 232-7494.

Campton brush pickup:

Brush pickup concludes this week throughout the Campton Township Highway District. Collections will conclude Friday south of Route 64. Limbs must be no more than 18 inches in diameter and 8 feet in length. Brush should be piled neatly with cut ends facing the road and should not be tied. Yard waste will not be collected. Township brush pickup:

The final St. Charles Township brush pickup date is Monday. Unincorporated St. Charles residents should call the township road district office at (630) 584-3496 by Friday and leave their address if they have brush to be picked up.

Volunteer awards coming up:

Aurora is accepting nominations for the city's Community Volunteer Awards through Nov. 14. Nonprofit groups, churches, schools and service clubs in Aurora are asked to submit nominations for their top three volunteers. All nominees will be recognized and one will be named "Aurora's Volunteer of the Year" at a reception with Mayor Thomas Weisner at 6 p.m. Dec. 4. Nomination forms are available at the city's Web site at aurora-il.org or call (630) 844-4731.
