Sunday storm causes minimal damage
Despite wind gusts of up to 70 MPH late Sunday and early Monday, only minimal damage has been reported throughout the suburbs early Monday morning.
Officials at the National Weather Service said average wind speed recorded at O'Hare International Airport was about 18 MPH. But, those winds had a tendency to gust up to 70 MPH in outlying areas, officials said.
Meteorologists said the low temperature recorded was 37 degrees, but the biting wind often made it feel 10 degrees colder than registered.
The National Weather Service did issue a wind advisory Sunday for most northern counties of Illinois.
Com Ed spokesperson Alicia Zatkowski said 63,000 customers lost power at the height of the outages between Sunday evening and into early Monday morning. The hardest hit areas were in the north regions, which include northern Cook County and most of Lake County
She said only 190 customers remain without power as early as 8 a.m. Monday, and that crews are still working to bring those people on line.
