Two killed in motorcycle crash near Joliet

Two people were killed early Thursday morning and a third person was injured following a motorcycle accident on I-80, state police officials said.

Police said the two were on one motorcycle in an eastbound lane of I-80 at about 2:30 a.m. when the motorcycle collided with a semi-truck and hit the ground.

The second motorcycle with a single rider crashed due to the debris from the first accident. He was transferred to Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet with serious injuries.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

State police officials are not releasing the names of the riders pending notification of the family members, officials said.

Interstate 80 was closed for about two hours while the accident was cleaned up.

Police are still investigating the accident. Citation have not been issued at this time.
