Briefs: South Elgin walk nears

The South Elgin Parks and Recreation FUNdation and the village of South Elgin will host their fourth annual 7K run and 2-mile fun walk beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. The event will begin and end at the Municipal Annex, 1 W. State St. Registration opens at 6:30 a.m. and more than 300 people are expected to participate. All participants will receive participation awards with additional awards for the top five best performances in the following categories: boys 14 and younger; girls 14 and younger; females 15 and older; and males 15 and older. The cost is $20 beforehand or $25 race day for the 7K run. The 2-mile walk is $10 pre race or $15 race day. New this year, the FUNdation is offering a Family pre Race rate of $8 for the walk. Registrations will be accepted at village hall, 10 N. Water St. or at signmeup.com.

Library hosts tax hike meetings

The Huntley Area Public Library is holding two informational meetings on its proposed tax increase before voters head to the polls. The tax increase, which would amount to about $60 a year for the owner of a $250,000 home, would allow the library to issue about $9.5 million in bonds for a 33,000-square-foot addition. The meetings will be held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 14 and 29 at the library, 11000 Ruth Road. The meetings will end around 8:30 p.m. and include question-and-answer sessions, tours and refreshments. Dist. 301 to dispose of old student records

Central Community Unit School District 301 will dispose of student temporary records from graduating classes of 2002 and 2003 on Nov. 15. Parents and students can request copies of these records before their destruction. Call (847) 464-6005 for information.
