Aurora cops probing series of fires

Aurora police are working to identify an arsonist who set fire to drapes at the Aurora Supported Living Center three times in one week.

Sgt. Tom Kearby said investigators are running through a list of people who either work, live or visit the assisted living center in the 1500 block of Farnsworth Avenue.

He said the arsonist has set three fires in the building between Oct. 5 and Oct. 11.

The blazes started in different areas and on different floors of the structure, but the drapes were ignited each time.

Kearby said the first fire was at 11:15 a.m. Oct. 5 but did not cause much damage and was contained quickly by staff members. He said the second fire was ignited at 1:25 p.m. the same day, which caused the home to be evacuated and the fire department to be called.

The third fire, at 3:35 p.m. Oct. 11, caused about $5,000 damage and also prompted another evacuation.

"Investigators are going through a list of potential suspects to try and figure this whole thing out," he said. "We really are not sure who it could be at this point - whether it's a patient or a staff member or a visitor. But, we'll continue to work on it until we have it solved."
