Maintain precision in use of language

For 33 years, I earned a living for my family working as a public school mathematics teacher.

During some school years, I was assigned to teach a class of English.

I was always intrigued by the relationship of the precise use of the English language and the objectivity of mathematics.

Now, being retired, I become irritated when, on many, many occasions someone has used the word "notorious" when they mean "notable."

Notorious: well-known, especially unfavorably. Notable: worthy of note; striking; remarkable.
