School board to meet

The Libertyville-Vernon Hills Area High School District 128 board will meet at 7 p.m. tonight, at Vernon Hills High, 145 N. Lakeview Parkway, to discuss a plan to eliminate class ranks. The proposal, which would mean the end of valedictorian and salutatorian honors and both Libertyville and Vernon Hills high schools, has been in the works for several months.

Village to back Olympics

The Lincolnshire Village Board is considering a resolution to support Chicago's bid to bring the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics to the region. Trustees are expected to vote on the measure at the 7 p.m. meeting tonight, at village hall, 1 Olde Half Day Road. Chicago is one of several international cities being considered for the games.

Cabaret concert at Carmel

The Carmel Catholic High School fine arts department will present its annual Cabaret Concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, and Thursday, Oct. 30, in the school's cafeteria, 1 Carmel Parkway, Mundelein. The high school jazz band and jazz combo will perform several Big Band ensembles directed by David Wiebers. Carmel's choral ensembles will perform under the direction of Kent Parry and students will give solo performances in dance and voice. Both concerts will feature a range of musical styles including American pop, jazz, rock and classical music from other parts of the world. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door for $3. Mundelein to stage play

The Mundelein High School theater department will open its new season with the Shakespeare classic "Twelfth Night" at 7 p.m. Nov. 6-8 at 1350 W. Hawley St., Mundelein.
