Fremd, Bartlett winners

Fremd broke open a close game in the second half and went on to a 24-7 win over Palatine in Class 8A football playoff action Friday night at Fremd.

The Vikings (8-2) took a 10-0 lead into second half and then scored early in the third quarter when Mike Gyetvay scored on a 5-yard run.

Palatine's Matt Rossi hit Jose Munoz with a 5-yard TD pass late in the fourth quarter to make it 17-7 but Fremd's Zenon Kolakowski brought an interception back 64 yards for a score to seal the win for Fremd, which will play next week at undefeated Bartlett.

Palatine finished the season 7-3.

Bartlett 10, Niles Notre Dame 7: Dan Karys kicked a 37-yard field goal in the first quarter and Vinny Libreri's 1-yard TD run in the second half put Bartlett ahead 10-0. Niles Notre Dame's Pat Lazzjra caugght a 24-yard TD pass from Eric Hennessey to make it a 10-7 game but the top-seeded Hawks (10-0) held on in the end.
