Don't forget to vote for judges, with help

On Nov. 4, citizens will have a chance to vote not only for our next president but also other candidates for national, state and local offices. A historic voter turnout is predicted and excitement is high.

Sometimes overlooked among the many candidates on the ballot are the men and women seeking judicial offices. Statistics show many voters don't take the time to vote for judicial candidates. Yet, judges make critical decisions on a daily basis that directly affect the lives, liberties and livelihoods of all of us.

Therefore, it is important to learn about the qualifications of judicial candidates and vote only for qualified men and women to serve as judges. Bar association evaluations and polls, along with newspaper endorsements, serve as a reliable, independent and relevant source of information.

The Illinois State Bar Association has evaluated judicial candidates statewide. Our ratings can be found at www.isba.org/judicialevaluations. We encourage voters to download these ratings and take them with you to the polling place.
