On the girls cross country horizon

Palatine is off to a fast start. The Pirates have won the Peoria Notre Dame Invite and their own invite to and will be in contention for a state trophy in November. Hoffman Estates will also be a team to watch. The Hawks have won the Libertyville Invite and Oak Park-River Forest Invite, they should challenge Palatine for the Mid Suburban League title.

Buffalo Grove has been a surprise taking third at Palatine last Saturday. Prospect had a few illnesses but the Knights should be ready come MSL meet. Hersey has not run its full varsity squad, but the Huskies are aiming for a late season uprising. Schaumburg and Barrington will also challenge.

Palatine sophomore Sarah McIntosh took first at the Hinsdale Invite and Palatine Invite. Hoffman Estates' Hannah Worman and Melissa Schmidt are a powerful 1-2 duo for the Hawks. Buffalo Grove's Olivia Jones is having a great freshman season. Barrington's senior Rebecca Tracy will challenge for all-state honors this year. Don't count out Prospect's junior Annette White. Hersey's Megan Gojney is looking for a strong finish also.

The MSL meet is Oct. 18 and the Schaumburg 3A sectional is Nov. 1. Both meets are at Busse Woods. The 3A state meet is Nov. 8 at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
