Downstate woman shot self, husband

EL PASO -- A coroner says a woman found dead in her home in the central Illinois town of El Paso died of a self-inflicted gunshot to the chest.

Woodford County Coroner Tim Ruestman says 68-year-old Lynda McClure died Monday of a wound that's "consistent with being self-inflicted."

Her husband, 77-year-old Keith McClure, suffered a single gunshot wound to the leg.

Ruestman says it appears McClure fired a round at her husband, fired a couple other rounds in the house and barricaded herself inside.

Police were called Monday after Keith McClure stumbled into the VFW across the street from the couple's home. He was bleeding from the leg and lying in the yard when officers arrived.

Officers had to remove an air conditioning unit from a window to gain entry.
