You can't shift Bush spotlight
In the vice presidential debate, Sarah Palin made it obvious that she did not want to discuss any difference between John McCain and George W. Bush. The lack of such difference is a major issue for the Democratic campaign. She tried, in her style, to "head it off at the pass" by accusing Joe Biden of "looking backward" when he asked about these differences.
It was obvious that she wanted to pre-empt any discussion of the relationship between McCain and Bush. Joe Biden didn't accommodate her, and proceeded to point out similarities between the president and the Republican pretender. The American voters will make their own such comparisons, and no amount of distraction will prevent it.
