Teen who lied about assault to volunteer
Authorities say a suburban Chicago teenager will perform community service after lying about being abducted and sexually assaulted.
The 17-year-old told police she was attacked as she left the Palos Heights sandwich shop where she worked on Sept. 16. The investigation was closed last week after the high school student admitted she lied.
The teen originally said she underwent a three-hour ordeal at knifepoint by an "olive-skinned" man.
Her family's attorney, Martin Dolan, says the girl suffers from "serious emotional problems."
Palos Heights Sgt. Dave Delaney said Monday that about 35 officers from the South Suburban Major Crimes Unit initially helped with the investigation, but only two detectives stayed on the case.
