Briefs: South Elgin principal lauded

The Illinois Art Education Association named South Elgin High School Principal Melanie Meidel the 2008 Art Administrator of the Year. The award recognizes the exemplary contributions, service and achievements of one outstanding administrator in the state of Illinois annually. The award will be presented at the IAEA conference in Galena the weekend of Oct. 24.

Donate hearing aids

The Geneva Lions Club recycles hearing aids for refurbishment. To donate, drop off in one of 20 eyeglass/hearing aid boxes throughout Geneva and St. Charles. For box locations, visit genevalionsclub.org.

City hall entry closed

Due to the stairway reconstruction at the James Street entrance to Geneva City Hall, the public will need to use the First Street entrance through Friday.

Marklund is holding a holiday online auction through Monday. All proceeds benefit Marklund and its nonprofit network of services for infants, children and adults with developmental disabilities. Dozens of items are available with opening bids starting at half the value of the item. ECC hosts college night

Elgin Community College will host a College Night from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Visual and Performing Arts Center on the main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Representatives from more than 140 colleges and universities will be available to answer questions about admissions requirements, athletics, housing and financial aid.

The Geneva Cultural Arts Commission is looking for sponsors for a fundraiser, "Dancing With the Geneva Stars." Six "celebrity" Geneva couples will compete Feb. 7 at Eagle Brook Country Club.
