Briefs: Guide to candidate debates on TV

Candidate debates hosted by the League of Women Voters will be broadcast on Comcast Public Access Cable channels through Nov. 4. Below is a list of debates and their air times. Highland Park Comcast Channel 19: Lake County offices forum for state's attorney, coroner, circuit court clerk, and two judgeships, noon Friday, Oct. 31; 58th State House District debate between State Rep. Food drive in Mundelein

Mundelein High School's Student Leadership Organization's annual canned food drive will begin next week. All food collected will be donated to four local food pantries for distribution throughout the upcoming holiday season. Organizers will distribute paper bags to the community Nov. 8, and they'll pick up the bags Nov. 15. The school collected more than 2,500 items last year.

Township funding available

Ela Township is accepting applications from social service agencies and community organizations requesting funding for fiscal year 2009. Funding is intended to help local agencies and organizations provide direct social services for Ela Township residents and for community services. Ela Township may award funds to nonprofit groups that provide a needed services to its township residents. Application forms are available at the township supervisor's office, 99 E. Main St., Lake Zurich, by calling (847) 438-7823 or by e-mail request at elatownship@sbcglobal.net. Completed application request forms must be received no later than 1 p.m. Jan. 2 by e-mail or delivery to the township office, 99 E. Main St., Lake Zurich, IL 60047.

Community prayer walk

Lake Zurich leaders will participate in a community prayer walk from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday from the Lake Zurich police station to village hall and back. Mayor John Tolomei will offer an opening prayer at the police station. Congregants will pray for the upcoming presidential election, the nation and wisdom and courage for local and national leaders.
