Spectators arrested in Chicago courtroom melee

Two spectators have been arrested in a Chicago court after getting into a melee with federal marshals.

Forty-four-year-old Kimberly Reeves and 43-year-old Jerry Bonds were charged Wednesday with assaulting a marshal and misbehaving in court.

The two rushed a door leading to a prisoner holding area and tried unsuccessfully to force it open, yelling that they wanted to talk with a prisoner. The disturbance occurred with Judge Joan B. Gottschall on the bench.

Reeves and Bonds appeared before a separate judge who ordered them released on a $4,500 bond pending an Oct. 28 hearing. They're also ordered not to attend any more court proceedings except their own.

Defense attorney Beth W. Gaus declined to comment.
