Don't drop out of Electoral College

This is addressed to Mr. Andre and his desire to eliminate the Electoral College.

I know you have many supporters but have you considered what you are asking for? You are saying that the person with the most votes wins. The censes numbers show that we have about 305,986,357 people in the U.S. Suppose we have five people running for president and one of them gets more than one fifth of the vote or some number over 61,197,271. You would be happy with this person being our president, when 79 percent of the people didn't want him for President. He would only need to carry the population of Texas, California and Florida to be elected.

If this sounds funny, consider that we generally have three candidates running. We could have five or more and the numbers that elect the president would be even smaller. This is what you want?

The Electoral College levels the playing field, even if presently one state is carried by an independent the electoral votes could be given to him or switched to the next most popular candidate. I believe your system would cause division and unrest in the country and you could have more people antagonistic and dissatisfied with our government than ever before.
