Central Ill. city asked to enforce smoking ban
LINCOLN, Ill. _ State legislators may have banned smoking in public places starting Jan. 1, but some central Illinois bar owners are reportedly still letting patrons light up.
Lincoln Alderman Jonie Tibbs said she's received an anonymous letter asking the city to enforce the smoking ban at local bars and restaurants. She says at least one bar owner still has ash trays out in plain view.
Tibbs and other officials say they aren't sure what they can do about business owners who continue to flout the ban on smoking in bars, restaurants and other public places and within 15 feet of their entrances.
Business owners and law enforcement have complained that the law isn't clear on how to enforce violations.
