Illinois to get federal flooding aid
Illinois, which suffered severe flooding this summer, will receive about $14 million in federal aid as part of a U.S. Department of Transportation distribution.
In total, the department is handing out $679 million in emergency relief funds for road and bridge repairs following a tumultuous year for weather. Twenty-eight states and Puerto Rico will share the funding to help repair devastation caused by storms and by hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
The money will help reimburse states for damaged infrastructure, debris removal and replacement costs. Illinois will get $13.9 million to compensate for flooding that occurred in June, while Indiana will receive $10.4 million and Wisconsin $25 million.
