Downstate mom charged for son's injuries
PEORIA -- A 17-year-old South Peoria woman is being held in lieu of $150,000 bond for allegedly allowing her 5-month-old son's leg and rib to be broken.
Stephanie M. Barton has been charged with aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery.
Assistant State's Attorney David Kenny said Thursday authorities learned of the injuries when the baby was brought to Methodist Medical Center. The father allegedly tried to remove the child from the hospital when it became apparent hospital officials were calling police.
Authorities say Barton and the father admitted they had gotten frustrated with the child, but couldn't say when the alleged injuries occurred. Although arrested, what charges to file against the 15-year-old father had yet to be determined.
The baby remains hospitalized.
