Garage fire in Hoffman Estates

A small garage fire was extinguished without incident at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Hoffman Estates.

Hoffman Estates fire officials said they were called to the 1500 block of Providence Drive for reports of a fire, but the first units on the scene did not see anythihng out of the ordinary.

However, upon further investigation, black smoke was discovered in the garage of the residential home.

Fire officials said fire fighters entered the garage and put out the fire.

No one was home at the time of the incident and no firefighters were injured in the small blaze.

The cause of the fire is being blamed on improper disposal of ashes from a fire pit into a plastic garbage can. The can was inside the garage for future disposal.

The estimated amount of damage to the home is listed at about $4,000.
