Man charged in shooting death on Chicago bus

Authorities say a 24-year-old man has been charged with fatally shooting a 17-year-old girl as she rode a Chicago Transit Authority bus.

Cook County state's attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin says Milton Wardlaw was charged Thursday with first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm in the death of Kiyanna Salter.

Wardlaw surrendered at the a church on Wednesday after his image was captured by a bus surveillance camera.

He told reporters at the church that he didn't fire the gun that killed Salter. He's due in bond court on Friday.

Salter's family says the shooting occurred after two men, including Wardlaw, quarreled on the bus. They say he got off, fired a shot back into the bus and fled.
