Briefs: Mmm ... lobster boil
St. Lawrence Episcopal Church will hold its third annual lobster boil on Saturday, Oct. 4. The lobsters are shipped directly from New England and arrive fresh Saturday morning. Order lobsters either live or steamed. Lobsters may be picked up at St. Lawrence at 5, 5:30, 6, 6:30 or 7 p.m. St. Lawrence is at 125 W. Church St., Libertyville. Lobsters must be ordered by Monday, Sept. 29. The cost is $20 per steamed lobster, $16 per live lobster. Order forms are available by calling the church office at (847) 362-2110 or on the church's Web site at stlawrencechurch.org. Order forms also are available at the St. Lawrence booth at the Libertyville farmers market each Thursday morning. Proceeds will benefit St. Lawrence Episcopal Church and its outreach ministries.
Check your safety seat
Gurnee police will offer free child safety-seat inspections from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20. The program will be held at the Key Lime Cove Water Park Resort, 1700 Nations Drive. Certified technicians will examine how your safety seat is installed. The effort is part of National Child Passenger Safety Week, which runs Sept. 21-27.
Deal complete in Grayslake
The village of Grayslake has officially closed on the sale of the 201 Center Street property to Center/Whitney LLC, which plans to redevelop the site into commercial space and 19 residences. The deal closed on Sept. 12. "For years the village has been entertaining proposals for development on this corner, and now we finally believe we have the right project," Mayor Tim Perry said.
Fishing derby set
A catch-and-release fishing derby is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Independence Grove Forest Preserve near Libertyville. The event will run from 8 to 11:30 a.m., with prizes awarded at noon. Participation in the all-ages event, which is limited to 100 people, will cost $3 per person.
