Batavia man killed in Wisconsin plane crash

Authorities today identified a 61-year-old Batavia man among the victims of a plane crash in northern Wisconsin Thursday night that killed three.

Kenton Morris was piloting the single-engine aircraft when it crashed about a half mile away from Lakeland Airport in Arbor Vitae, Wis., the Vilas County Sheriff's Department said.

Also killed in the crash were Curtiss Stern, 40, and John Schlagenhaft, 50, of Milwaukee.

The crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board, but preliminary indications are the plane was on approach for landing about 7:13 p.m. Thursday when it went down southwest of the airport.

A flight plan indicated the plane, a Cirrus SR21, first departed from Chicago, made a brief stop in Milwaukee to pick up Stern and Schlagenhaft, then proceeded to Arbor Vitae. Authorities said it appears the three men were on a weekend getaway.
