4 charged in girl's shooting death
Authorities have charged four men with first-degree murder and attempted first degree murder in the death of 10-year-old Nequiel Fowler, who was gunned down while playing outside with her blind 5-year-old sister one day before she was to start the 4th grade.
The Cook County State's Attorney's office identified the four charged Wednesday as 20-year-old Luis Pena, 18-year-old Raymond Jones, and 23-year-old Joseph Chico, all of Chicago, and 25-year-old Antoine Lacy of Sauk Village.
Witnesses and police say Nequiel was shot Monday afternoon just after she finished tying her sister's shoe. The sister was left clinging to a house gate.
Fowler was taken to the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
