Elgin man charged with possession of meth
Elgin police arrested a man on possession charges after a search turned up a variety of drugs, according to a report.
Thomas A. Metz, 42, of 2084 Constitution Court, was charged in court Thursday with possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, police said.
Elgin police said they obtained the search warrant after investigating Metz. They stopped his car away from his home while members of Elgin's tactical response team, narcotics unit and patrol unit searched his residence Wednesday evening, police said.
The search uncovered about 5 grams of methamphetamine, a burned spoon with suspected methamphetamine residue in it, numerous small plastic bag, two digital scales, a glass bottle containing a liquid suspected of being GHB, a date rape drug, and a liquid suspected of being Ketamine, an animal tranquilizer.
At a bond hearing Thursday, Metz said he was unemployed and recently completed probation with an Elgin rehabilitation program for a previous methamphetamine conviction.
"I really want to get out of this meth life," he said. "It's kind of a blessing this happened."
He posted a $4,000 bond and was released pending an Oct. 3 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.
