Book discussion groups: The library offers two Book Discussion Groups on the second Tuesday of every month. On Tuesday, Sept. 9, the 10 a.m. group will discuss "The Shadow Catcher" by Marianne Wiggins and the 7 p.m. group will discuss "Touch and Go: A Memoir" by Studs Terkel.
Lyric Opera Lecture Corp: The Lyric Opera Lecture Corp will again present information about the eight operas of the Lyric's season on a rotating basis at the Tri-City libraries. Manon by Jules Massenet will be discussed at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 at the library.
Writers group: St. Charles Writers Group meets on the second and fourth Saturday of every month beginning at 9:15 a.m. On Sept. 13, the group will discuss "Beyond the steamy room: Writing effective love scenes." Moderator Richard Holinger leads the group that is designed for both fledgling and experienced writers. Each workshop begins with a short presentation or a group discussion and follows with critiques of each other's work. Workshops are for those 18 or older. Friends of the Library: The Friends of the Library will host a dinner at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15. Come and enjoy a pasta dinner and learn more about the Friends Group. The group will host their semi-annual used book sale on Oct. 17-18.
Youth services
Fall program information is on the library's Web site www.stcharleslibrary.org. Watch your mailbox for the fall issue of Discover Your Library, the Library's News and Program Guide. Program registration began Sept. 6.
Storytime: Starting Sept. 16-17, there will be lots of fun on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at Multi-Age Story Time. All you need to do is show your St. Charles Library card at the meeting room door.
Biscuit the Dog: On Friday, Sept. 12, come and take pictures with Alyssa Capucilli's Biscuit the Dog at 11 a.m. Register for this special event and make sure to bring your camera for some memorable shots. Book character visits are in partnership with Barnes & Noble of Geneva.
Story Times: Fall age specific Story Times will be starting the third week of September. Registration is required for all age specific story times. Three story times take place on Mondays - Infant Story Time, 1-year-old Story Time, and 3- to 5-year-old Story Time. These story times begin on Monday, Sept. 15. Infant storytime will take place at 9:30 a.m., 1-year-old Story time will be at 10:30 a.m., and 3- to 5-year-old Story Time will be at 7 p.m.
Three age specific story times take place on Tuesdays and will begin on Sept. 16. Two-year-old Story Time will be at 9:30 a.m., 3- and 4-year-old Story Time will be at 10:30 a.m., and 4- and 5-year-old Story Time will be at 1:30 p.m. Two age specific story times take place on Wednesdays and will begin on Sept. 17. Three- and 4-year-old Story Time will take place at 9:30 a.m. and 2-year-old Story Time will be at 10:30 a.m. One-year-old Story Time will take place on Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. and will begin on Sept. 18.
Stories at the Nature Center: Stories at the Nature Center at Tekakwitha Woods Forest Preserve in St. Charles returns at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19.
Movie Night: At 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, "Eragon" will be shown on the big screen. Registration for this event is for students in third to eighth grade and adults.
Kid's Corner: First- and second-grade kids will want to be at Kid's Corner for fractured fairy tales at 4:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22. Variations of traditional fairy tales will be presented making for a fun time.
For Scouts: For all girl and boy scouts and their troop leaders, sign up for one of the programs especially for Scouts. The Scout Tour, Scavenger Hunt and Introduction to the Library will be at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24. Bring your Bear troops to the Tall Tales workshop at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25. Scout leaders must register with library staff in person or by telephone at (630) 584-9390.
Monkey See, Monkey Do: Join storyteller A. Denise Farrugia at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24 for her Monkey See, Monkey Do family storytime. Registration for this program is for infants to 5 years old, students in kindergarten and first grade, and adults.
On display: Ben Deetjen's Disney Cars collection will be on display for the month of September. His collection includes different sized "Cars" characters from the movie, including his favorite character Lightning McQueen.
