Cubs announce tentative 2009 schedule
The Cubs on Wednesday announced their tentative 2009 regular season schedule, set to begin April 6 in Houston and conclude October 4 vs. Arizona at Wrigley Field.
The Cubs will play their 2009 Wrigley Field opener Monday, April 13 vs. Colorado.
The Cubs will open the 2009 campaign on the road for the first time since 2007 and the seventh time in the last eight seasons.
The season-opening road trip features a pair of three-game sets in Houston (April 6-8) and Milwaukee (April 10-12). Chicago's first homestand is a three-team, nine-game affair, featuring a two-game set against the Colorado Rockies (April 13-15), a four-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals (April 16-19) and three games against the Cincinnati Reds (April 21-23).
The 2009 schedule features five interleague series, including the traditional home-and-home series against the Chicago White Sox (June 16-18 at Wrigley Field, June 26-28 at U.S. Cellular Field). The Cubs host the Minnesota Twins (June 12-14) and the Cleveland Indians (June 19-21). Chicago will also visit Detroit (June 23-25) for the first time since 2001.
The Cubs 2009 tentative schedule features four three-series homestands and two three-city, 10-game trips with the first coming July 31-August 10 (Florida, Cincinnati, Colorado). The Cubs longest homestand is a 10-game, 10-day stay July 2-12 against Milwaukee, Atlanta and St. Louis.
The Cubs are scheduled to host three holiday games: May 25 vs. Pittsburgh on Memorial Day, June 21 vs. Cleveland for Father's Day and July 4 vs. Milwaukee for the Fourth of July. The Cubs are scheduled to be in Houston for Mother's Day (May 7) and Pittsburgh for Labor Day (September 7).
In 2009, the Cubs are scheduled to make two or three trips to every opponent within the National League Central but just one stop at every other ballpark in the National League with the exception being San Diego. Chicago will be in New York September 4-6 to play in the Mets new park, Citi Field.
