Carpentersville man guilty of sexual assault

A 25-year-old Carpentersville man was convicted this week of sexually assaulting an acquaintance he had repeatedly threatened.

Daniel Ceron-Jimenez of the first block of Sycamore Avenue was found guilty of aggravated criminal sexual assault and one count of criminal sexual assault by Kane County Circuit Judge Timothy Sheldon during a one-day bench trial. Ceron-Jimenez, who waived his right to a jury trial, faces between six and 30 years in prison for the May 2006 attack.

Prosecutors said Ceron-Jimenez was staying at the then 19-year-old victim's house while caring for a relative of hers. Ceron-Jimenez had told the victim that he wanted to have sex with her and that he would do so forcefully if she denied his advances, the Kane County State's Attorney's office said in a news release.

When Ceron-Jimenez returned to the home on May 10, 2006, he forcibly removed the victim's clothing and sexually assaulted her. The victim was injured in the attack but was able to fight Ceron-Jimenez off and escape.

Sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 19.
