U-46 bias suit could be reversed
After reading "Frivolous suit costs U-46 school money," I couldn't have said it any better than Dick Daniels. He hit the nail right on the head when stating that he could file the same lawsuit as the five minority families have against the school district.
I say that white students are no longer the majority in many of the U-46 schools, but rather the "minority" now. The elementary school that my children attend is 77 percent minority (Hispanics and blacks), and I suspect that those students are receiving 77 percent of the money allocated to that school, with hiring more bilingual teachers, getting reduced fare lunches, free backpacks and school supplies, etc. White students are not receiving those services ... they're only paying for them!
It's time for people to grow up and be accountable for their children's education. While teachers can only do so much within the school day, education should continue once the child gets home, which includes parental involvement in homework, after school activities, etc. I know personally that many Hispanic students aren't receiving parental support because their parents refuse to learn English. That is a simple fact.
So I say, it's time to stop wasting taxpayer money, which is all of us, and let U-46 do its job, which is to educate our students. And parents do their job, which is to get involved in your kids' education! Attend a PTC/PTO/PTA meeting at your child's school and find out what is going on, rather than sitting around complaining about things and filing lawsuits that are ridiculous, which in turn is costing all of us - especially our students.
