Chicago police are investigating five separate and apparently unrelated shooting deaths in the city.

The killings occurred Friday afternoon, Friday night and early Saturday morning.

In the first incident, 31-year-old Dexter Blaylock was shot to death Friday afternoon on a sidewalk on West 79th Street.

About three hours later and ten blocks to the north, 17-year-old Cory Hatter was shot several times.

Later Friday, 23-year-old Mark Mitchell was shot once in the back on the city's far South Side.

About an hour after that, 36-year-old Ricky Grant was fatally shot in his car on the city's South Side.

The fifth killing was that of 29-year-old Shavel Monegan, who was standing with a group of people in the 7000 block of South Michigan Avenue when someone approached an opened fire.
