Man tried to rob woman he helped days earlier, cops say

Apparently Keon Delaney wasn't such a Good Samaritan, Bartlett police say.

Delaney, 20, of 1771 McCormick Lane; and Darrel Thomas, 20, of 2152 Mallard Lane, both of Hanover Park, were arrested Thursday and charged with attempting to rob a Bartlett woman, Sgt. Michael McGuigan said.

A few days before the arrest, Delaney helped the woman - who McGuigan only described as "older" - carry water from her car into her home on the 1600 block of Colfax Court. The woman paid Delaney $5 for his help, McGuigan said.

But on Wednesday the woman's neighbors called police and told them Delaney and Thomas were walking around peering into windows and pulling on doors, McGuigan said. Police questioned the men and found one of them had a silver BB gun, McGuigan said. The pair were planning to rob the woman Delaney had helped, McGuigan added.

Police took the men to DuPage County jail to await a bond hearing. Information on their next court date and the bond amount wasn't available.
