Briefs: Seniors invited to academy

The Mundelein Police Department will hold a senior citizen police academy program this fall. It begins Tuesday, Oct. 7 and will continue every Tuesday for 10 weeks. Classes are set for 11 a.m. at the Del Webb clubhouse, 3555 Grand Dominion Circle. Topics will include criminal investigation, drug enforcement and the crime lab.

Sign comes down

A Barrington Hills man has removed a sign on his property that advertised he had fired his architect, David A. Schulz of St. Charles. William Kaper Jr. said Thursday he took the sign down, which was about 4-by-8-feet large and said in big black and red letters he fired Schulz, with whom he had worked for the past five years at renovating his $30 million mansion. Having the sign come down will be a welcome sight to Barrington architect David F. Schultz. With the similarities in names, Schultz was concerned it would hurt his business. Kaper disputed Schultz's claim he wanted $7,000 to add to the sign that Schulz was from St. Charles.
