Elgin Community College minutes
In a meeting Aug. 12, the Elgin Community College District 509 board of trustees took these actions:
• Approved the minutes of the July 8 open session.
• Named Duffy Drive, the extension street leading from College Green Drive to Spartan Drive, in honor of the board's longest serving trustee, John Duffy of Elgin.
• Contracted for insurance appraisal services for buildings, land improvements and equipment from Maximus Inc. of Charlotte, N.C. for an amount not to exceed $15,000.
• Purchased access switches and auxiliary products for the college's data network from AmPem Electronics & Services Inc. of Houston, Texas for an amount not to exceed $56,324.
• Approved a contract for the purchase and installation of low voltage wiring for a video surveillance system on the Main and Fountain Square campuses from Applied Communications Inc. of Roselle for an amount not to exceed $28,164.36.
• Approved a contract for installing traffic calming devices in front of the Health and Business Technology Center and Student Resource Center from Tracy & Ed Construction of Sycamore for an amount not to exceed $41,610.
• Approved a contract with EcoEnergy Engineering of Elgin to design new electrical system controls for the cogeneration engines for an amount not to exceed $90,900.

• Approved an unpaid leave of absence for the 2008 fall semester for Nathanael Larson, assistant professor of photography.
