Jarred by the continuous whistle
At 12:25 a.m. on Monday, Sept 22, I was jarred awake by a freight train slowly moving through Arlington Heights. The engineer of that train must have decided to wake up every resident who had windows open along its path, as he did not let up on the train's whistle.
I live a half mile from the tracks, and usually I am not bothered by the train at night. But I continued to hear this particular train's whistle for another five minutes as the train moved on to the next community.
Twenty-five minutes later another train went through town and the whistle was only blown two short times, and this would not have awakened me if I had not already been wide-awake.
Is there any way of identifying the engineer of the freight train to which I refer? I believe that he knew exactly what he was doing.
