Con-Con won't fix mess in Springfield

In Fence Post (9-20-08), David Vaught indicates that a Constitutional Convention can "correct the mess" we have in Springfield.

Apparently, Mr. Vaught does not realize that we have a leadership crisis, not a constitutional crisis in Illinois government.

The present Constitution has served us well for 38 years. It has recall and amendment provisions.

We do not need a Constitutional Convention where political and/or one-issue delegates could very well negatively affect the well-being of Illinois citizens. Citizens could be seriously harmed by the potential of political mischief occurring at a Constitutional Convention.

The expense of a Constitutional Convention has been estimated to be upwards of $100 million - money that could be spent much more wisely. The best way to "correct the mess" in Illinois government is through the elective process, not through a Constitutional Convention.
