Kane County Sheriff's car show returns
Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez couldn't have been happier last year when his inaugural charity car and motorcycle show raised more than $4,500 for Easter Seals.
But now he thinks he can do better.
"We've set a goal to raise more than last year, and I think we've got a real shot at that goal," Perez said of the fundraiser's return to St. Charles on Sunday.
Perez's 2nd Annual Charity Car and Motorcycle Show is set for noon to 3 p.m. at the Kane County Judicial Center and Sheriff's Office on Route 38. This year's proceeds go to the disabled American veterans service organization.
Perez said funds generated from the show will benefit local veterans who served in Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries.
"We're going to keep this all local," he said. "And it's not just for the kids coming back now - it's for the Korean War vets, the Vietnam vets and Desert Storm vets. It's the least we can do to show our appreciation."
Last year's fundraiser drew about 130 car and motorcycle entries; this year's goal is 200. The vehicles will be on display throughout the afternoon, with awards to be given at the end of the event.
New this year will be live acoustic guitar music by Perez's 18-year-old son, Gabe, and a rock tunes from a group of Kane County corrections officers calling themselves Use of Force.
A portion of proceeds from burger, brat, and hot dog sales, provided by the Catering Gourmets of Sugar Grove, also will benefit the cause.
There is no admission to attend, although donations for disabled American veterans will be accepted. Show entry fees are $10 per vehicle.
Perez asks that anyone interested in making a donation but unable to attend the show make checks payable to Sheriff's Charity Car Show and mail them to the Kane County Sheriff's Department, 37W755 Route 38, Suite A, St. Charles, IL 60175.
