Downstate man charged in death of child, 5

EDWARDSVILLE -- Madison County officials say a 35-year-old Cottage Hills man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend's 5-year-old son.

Frank D. Price was in Madison County Jail on Wednesday in lieu of $2 million bail.

Captain Brad Wells says Price brought Ethan Allen to a fire station on Monday and said the unconscious boy had fallen off his bicycle. The child died at a St. Louis-area hospital on Wednesday.

Wells says Madison County sheriff's department detectives didn't find any evidence the boy crashed his bicycle. He says officials are waiting for a report from the medical examiner's office.

There is no telephone listing for Price in Cottage Hills. It's not clear if he has an attorney.
