Briefs: Bargains at the barn

St. Peter Catholic Church in Geneva holds its annual Barn Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Kane County Fairgrounds, Route 38 and Randall Road in St. Charles. There will be thousands of items for the home, office, kids, yard, entertainment, exercise, antiques, clothing and more. New this year is a taste of Geneva, with several restaurants offering up servings of their most popular dishes. Admission and parking are free. Donate to pantry

More than 150 volunteers from nine Batavia churches and the Batavia Lions Club will join Jewel and Amstadt's food stores in Batavia to help restock the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry Friday, Sept. 19 to Sunday, Sept. 21. Volunteers in red aprons will pass out lists of items that the food pantry needs to shoppers entering the stores and will collect the food items that the shoppers will donate to the food pantry. Containers for money donations will also be available. The food pantry serves 500 to 600 people each month. Food donations may also be dropped off at the food pantry, 100 Flinn Drive, two blocks south of Wilson Street. Food pantry hours are 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to noon Friday.

Learn about perennials

Wasco Nursery & Garden Center will raise money for Lazarus House with a seminar on perennials Saturday, Sept. 20 at 41W781 Route 64, west of St. Charles. The seminar featuring Laurie McGhee of Bailey Nursery runs from 10 a.m. to noon and includes a slide show presentation and lessons about perennial color combinations, among other topics. Batavia's RSVP celebrates

Batavia Retired Senior Volunteer Projec Inc. is celebrating its 20th year of service to Batavia senior citizens. A "Thank-You" tea for charter members, Golden Diners drivers, volunteers and donors is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Batavia Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave.

Learn about Wright

At 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 the Geneva History Center will welcome architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright, as portrayed by actor and scholar Lyman Shepard, will regale the audience with tales from his storied and sometimes scandalous career. He will also share images of the many buildings he designed, from early homes to international masterpieces. Genevans may recall that Wright was involved in several local projects and also worked extensively with Geneva builders Oscar and August Wilson.
