Animals and Plants

Bird Banding: 9 a.m.-noon Sept. 7, Stillman Nature Center, 33 W. Penny Road, Barrington. Watch a licensed bird-bander measure, weigh and record data about Stillman's resident and migratory birds. Be prepared to hike the trails. Free. Call (847) 428-6957.

The Sacred Use of Plants: 7:30-9 p.m. Sept. 8, Byron Colby Barn in Prairie Crossing, 1561 Jones Point Road, Grayslake. Members of the public are invited to join Lake-to-Prairie Wild Ones for "The Sacred Use of Plants in Native America." Doors will open at 7 for registration and socializing before the talk.

Mum's the Word: 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8, Evangelical Free Church, 431 W. Austin Ave., Libertyville. The Gardeners of Central Lake County will host "Mum's the Word" by Andy Plasz.
