Class of 1985 planning Arlington High reunion

An effort is under way to bring together Arlington High School's Class of 1985, students who went on to graduate elsewhere after the school closed in 1984.

An Oct. 25 reunion event is being planned at the former school, 502 W. Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights, which is now the Christian Liberty Academy.

Tickets cost $60 per person if purchased before Sept. 30; $70 at the door.

Festivities include a tour of the former Arlington from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by dinner, an open bar and music in the Grace Gym and foyer.

There's also a pre-reunion gathering planned for 8 p.m. Oct. 24 at Harry's of Arlington, Campbell and Vail streets, for classmates only.

Reunion committee members are still trying to locate classmates, and are spreading the word through their Web site, www.arlington85.webs.com. Committee members said the idea for a reunion came about a year or so ago when several former classmates started talking about it, then connected with other classmates to get the effort off the ground. Although Class of 1985 members graduated from other schools and have attended those schools' reunions, many have told committee members they've always wanted to have an "Arlington" reunion.

Class of 1985 students finished their junior year at the school before it closed. Northwest Suburban High School District 214 later sold the facility to the Christian Liberty Academy.

Students were given the choice of three schools to finish out high school: Prospect, Hersey and Rolling Meadows. Most of the class went to Prospect. For more details, visit the reunion Web site at arlington85.webs.com.
