Gold medal soccer star to visit St. Charles

Carli Lloyd, who scored the winning goal against Brazil to net the U.S. a gold medal in Beijing earlier this summer, will visit the Sportsplex in St. Charles Saturday morning.

The midfielder will answer questions from fans from 10:30 to 11 a.m. as part of the gym's "Day of Play" open house.

Lloyd was recently recruited to play for the Chicago Red Stars women's professional soccer team, which will begin play in the spring. Red Stars coach Emma Hayes and general manager Marcia McDermott will also be at the event. Hayes and McDermott will be part of a demonstration clinic from 10 to 10:25 a.m.

"Day of Play" is free, and runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There will be sample classes of the "Little Kickers" program for children age 2 to 7, coaching clinics, and sports performance training. Sportsplex is at 1400 Foundry St., St. Charles. For details, call (630) 762-8100,
